Monday and Refrain - two poems by Gabriella Noble

I am constantly seeking that vividness that I knew in childhood - the deeper and slower experience of things that has been left behind. Our quick fix pleasures, such as super-sweet yummy things and on-demand entertainment, have in their high wattage somewhat eclipsed the joys of everyday life. Occasionally something from the natural world, like a humble dried fig, equally dazzles and it’s quite a lovely thing.

There have been times in my life when I have felt very content. At these times I’ve been happily tired and cold and slept when it’s been dark and moved when it’s been light. Such moments are best shared.

Gabriella Noble is a confused and enthused lover of music and literature. She graduated from the University of Oxford in 2017 with a BA in Music and has since gone on to study for an MA at York University. She has done a lot of singing and conducting throughout her studies, but has always turned to literature and creative writing for private moments of consolation and elation. She hopes to somehow study, write, and perform forever!
